I mentioned Miami because I've noticed a migration of adult content producers, (mostly porn,) to the Miami Beach area. I think a lot of this has to do with the fact that there are beautiful girls of all shapes and sizes there. (The Girls Gone Wild producers have made a mint in this area as well as Daytona over the last 12 years.) Now a LOT of this stuff is of the "gonzo porn" variety where permits and even class mean nothing but it has resulted in a LOT of beautiful adult models being based out there.
From there housing in Daytona is rock bottom cheap for good beachfront property, (spring break has brought property values down due to the surge of people trampling the area flat for a week or so every year.)
In terms of locations, LA has it's good and bad points. Good in the sense that sound stages and locations of all kinds can be had. The bad is priceing. LA can be very complicated and pricey. (New York has the best permit deals anywhere when it comes to using city property for any kind of film or video. One payment, one permit and a schedule and you're ready to go.) In my case I'm really getting into the usage of green screening and feel that this is a good option if real locations get too expensive or hard to lock down.
The other upside is the calibre of women is every bit as high as it is in Florida and the factors you have already mentioned.
Either way it will come down to financing because one thing I know is unless I move to Montreal, (the sex trade epicentre of Canada in terms of adult modelling, porn, stripping and prostitution,) I will NOT be able to make this kind of product in Canada and have it be high quality. |
Hey BigChris,
First for your Venus series you worked with females who could act and spent some time in acting classes. In Florida you're talking about Girls Gone Wild and gonzo porn for the Internet. It seems what you want are girls that have spent some time in acting classes and take this stuff seriously and are willing to do nudity. Also don't a lot of the Florida girls head for California anyway, once they get a taste for the business? I serously doubt you can get anything cheap near the beach in southern California, but there are areas further in land that are cheaper. Also Daytona Beach appears to be miles and miles from the big population centers in Florida. You might want to travel to both areas before making a final decision. I've never been to Florida but I know if (when?) I jump into this again I'm heading for LA.
Since you want the Venus franchise to remain no nudity how about another take on aerobics. I'm not happy with any of the third words in these titles but how about something like Bikini Aerobics Beach or Bikini Aerobics Girls or The Bikini Aerobics Club where a group of girls do their aerobic exercises on a beach in tiny bikinis. Maybe for a plot you could do the tried and true idea of evil developers wanting to turn the girls' beach into condos, and the girls use their wits and bodies to thwart the evil developers and politicians at every turn. Girls in bikinis doing aerobics on a beach at sunrise; you might win an Academy Award for cinematogaphy just for that shot.
When using locations the people in charge seem to be more interested in production insurance than in permits. When I called around for permits they were no hassle at all in Sacramento unless you had to have traffic diverted or something like that. When I called about a permit in Sacramento county their concern was about traffic and special stunts with fire and things like that. Nothing that I was doing caused any concern (They didn't know that girls from LA would be exposing themselves on public tennis courts but then again neither did I). In LA they want people to film movies. Its a big part of their economy. I can't imagine getting permits for shooting would be more complicated in LA county than it is in Sacramento county. |

I hear what you're saying about Florida.
Ultimately what happened when I put the final, (there were 3 different casts in place prior to the one you saw but we lost various members for various reasons including content,) cast together was I gave up on serious actors in the parts and focused on models who also acted. (I emphysized that it was a Baywatch type program.) Unfortunately in Canada our film and tv community seems to think that all they should ever make is "art" and this resulted in what is a VERY snobby film community and sexy comedies just don't work here. This is a big reason why the Pamela Andersons of the world leave Canada as soon as they're legal.
As a result I focused on girls who were models first, actors second because too many potential actresses were walking out on auditions. This is why I went heavy on aesthetics. You have to know your actors are comfortable with the subject matter before you worry if they can act. (If you write it properly, you can hide any shortcomings.)
I like the idea of beach bikini aerobics as a starting point but I'm not a fan of a male antagonist. Most web series's today that go the sexy comedy route and they are loaded with male "douchebag" characters and none are very good as a result. I'm thinking more along the lines of girls struggling to get a show on cable tv, dealing with skanky rivals but ultimately achieving a goal if not the ultimate goal. Male characters should probably be off to the side and only used where needed rather than be important to the plot.
As for permits, the problem friends of mine in LA have encountered is the sheer amount of permits and shopping lists of insurance policies you need which by itself is a full time job to handle it all. (This is why porn is only shot in people's houses or guerilla style on the beach these days.) If I can get a locale with a big wide space with minimal audio issues I can make it work just about anywhere. Either building the sets or greenscreening works for me most of the time. (Today's web shows are really making use of this and they are starting to look really good. Adobe Pro is changing the industry!)
The West Coast is ultimately where I am probably going to end up going but I'm still working on financing Venus 82 first. When that's in place, I will be able to guage where I take things next. |

Hi everyone!
Next week I will be shooting a workout video parody with the girls to be released on DVD. (A bit wilder than the Youtube stuff but no nudity.) There will be some clips on the Youtube channel but not all.
I'll have more info on this in the next week or two! |

| We may be doing preorders and/or courting donations to help finance Season 2 in the not too distant future. (Lots of cool perks to go with donating!) Stay tuned in the next few days to a week for more details. |

Hey BigChris, I've been busy with other things for the last month and this is the first time I've checked the forum since then (great to know as the only moderator that the only people who are able to post are people you can trust). So I missed this but it says it was removed by the user. Was this just specific for the gold metal game and that's why it was removed or was there another reason.
Although my hockey team is the San Jose Sharks and the Canadian team had a lot of them on there I was still rooting for the US, so maybe its better I didn't see this video after all. |

Hey all,
Recently I posted a thread seeking donations for the show but I didn't post the links properly so I deleted it. (It was a big mess imo.) Anyway, here's a link if you wish to send donations to help keep Venus Spa going!
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=6MKUJ7YFK5C4Q
As I mentioned before anyone who donates over $100us will be aknowledged as a 'Power Donor' giving them not only a producer title with the other donors but also the chance to write an Season 2 episode of the show as well!
Everyone who makes a donation will have their Youtube channel promoted, aknowledgments given in the videos and either Associate Producer or simply Producer credit depending on the size of the donation.
We definitely need the support to please donate to the show so we can make Season 2 our hottest season yet! |
